Uniform Change Consultation
Huxlow Academy - Uniform Change Consultation (September 2026)
Following our successful consultation in July 2025 regarding proposed uniform changes in the summer months, we have taken the decision for a full review. Any changes made will allow for current items to be worn for a period of time or until they are outgrown/need replacing.
The Department for Education has published draft updates to the statutory guidance on the cost of school uniforms, which will become a legal requirement from September 2026. From this date, schools should limit the number of compulsory branded items of uniform and PE kit to 3 or fewer, with secondary schools permitted to have a tie as a 4th compulsory branded item. This review includes the following proposed changes:
1. Replace the blazer with an embroidered long sleeved knitted v neck jumper (material: 50% Acrylic/50% Cotton)
(current v neck sweatshirts would only be permitted in PE)
Rationale:
Reduce costs for parents/carers/families
Encourage the wearing of coats in colder months
Encourages the use of a school bag

**Blazers will still be permitted to be worn by students for a period of time or until they outgrow them/need replacing*
2. Reduce branded items in PE to just the polo shirt
Rationale:
Reduce costs for parents/carers/families
3. Addition of optional summer uniform of black tailored shorts
Rationale:
Support students who struggle to regulate with the heat in warmer weather
When proposing these amendments, we have considered the impact of these changes on families and how to minimise the financial impact. We will continue to make second-hand uniforms available through our uniform store and will provide clear information about where uniform items can be purchased.
We would really appreciate it if you discussed these changes as a family and complete the short consultation form. Deadline for completion is Monday 8th December 2025
