2025 Headline GCSE Outcomes
2025 has been a landmark year for Huxlow Academy. Our students have achieved exceptional outcomes across a broad and ambitious curriculum, reflecting the high expectations, expert teaching and strong relationships that define our school. From the moment students join us, we set the standard that success is achievable for everyone – and this summer’s results show that commitment is coming to life.
Across English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Languages, students performed at a level that demonstrates both academic excellence and inclusivity. Attainment rose sharply at every grade boundary, with more students than ever before securing strong passes in English and Maths, and record numbers achieving the highest grades across subjects.
Typically, schools are measured using a Progress 8 score. In a school with a P8 of 0 all students are making on average the expected level of progress from KS2 to KS4. A P8 score of 0.5 would mean students are achieving on average half a grade higher than their targets, whilst a P8 of -0.5 would mean students are achieving on average half a grade lower in each of their GCSE subjects.
Although national Progress 8 figures will not be published in 2025 due to missing KS2 assessments due to COVID19, most schools have calculated student progress from Y7 CAT tests. Our internal analysis using Year 7 CAT baseline data indicates an equivalent progress score of +0.5 (± 0.3). This is a significant improvement from a Progress 8 score of –0.8 in 2024. This represents more than a full grade of additional progress and shows that students at Huxlow are now learning and achieving well above national expectations.
Our results also highlight a school where achievement is shared. The gap between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged students has narrowed by over a grade, and outcomes for SEND learners have improved substantially. High prior attainers continue to excel, achieving an average GCSE grade of a 7 and progress equivalent to +1.3.
Beyond the numbers, these results reflect the success of our Pupils Whose Learning is Vulnerable (PLV) strategy, our commitment to quality teaching in every classroom, and a culture that makes Huxlow a place where every student feels known, valued, and challenged to achieve their best.
