World Mental Health Day 2019
Staff at Huxlow Science College enjoyed breakfast together to support World Mental Health Day, on Thursday 10th October 2019.
The breakfast was organised by the “Time to Change Champions”, members of staff who work together to change the way people think and act about mental health. The theme of the event was “Ask Twice.” Time to Change are leading this campaign by encouraging people to “Ask Twice” if they suspect that someone is struggling with their mental health. Asking again, with interest can help someone to open up for the first time. It was a great opportunity for staff to spend time talking to each other in a relaxed environment.
Huxlow Science College are focused on changing attitudes around mental health. We signed up to the Time to Change Employer Pledge last year. By signing this pledge, we are demonstrating our commitment to ensuring that all employees feel supported enough to talk about their experiences. We have made a number of adjustments to the workplace, including adding a new “Wellbeing Area” to the staff room. The area has been designed with peace and tranquillity in mind and is somewhere for staff to go to rest and recharge.
A huge thank you to Andrew, one of our School Governors and Sainsburys for their donation of mince pies. Their donation was so generous that we were able to share some with our local nursing home, Highmead House for the residents to enjoy.
