A Warm Welcome to Huxlow

Welcome to Huxlow Science College

At Huxlow Science College we believe that school days are precious and form the foundations for our students’ future lives. We have a determination to ensure that our students are given the best possible opportunities to succeed both academically and as young people who are an asset to the communities in which they live. Our community is rightly very proud of our school, our students and their successes. We have a rich history of students of all abilities and backgrounds fulfilling their potential in all areas of their education and they are supported and challenged daily to gain the skills, confidence and qualifications they will need to be successful in an ever-changing world.

We pride ourselves on the levels of support and guidance we offer our students and place students and their needs at the heart of everything we do. We work hard to ensure students are happy, feel safe and are taught well. Developing ‘The Whole Child’ is one of our core responsibilities and our students are challenged to aim for the highest personal and academic standards. We have high expectations of behaviour and respect across our community and forge excellent relationships with both students and parents.

I am hugely proud to be the Headteacher of Huxlow Science College and to lead the school as we build on recent increases in both student numbers and exam results. It is such a privilege to be entrusted with the lives of the young people in our community, to shape their characters and enable their success.

We look forward to welcoming all prospective students, parents and carers to experience all that is Huxlow in the very near future.

UK Parliament Week 2019 to be celebrated by Huxlow Science College.

Huxlow Science College will be carrying out activities to mark UK Parliament Week and ‘have our say’ on the issues that matter most. Year 7 students will be taking part in a debate and a vote. Their vote will be taken forward to Parliament for discussion by a group of Year 12 students.

UK Parliament Week is a UK-wide festival taking place from 2-8 November, which aims to engage people, especially young people, from different backgrounds and communities, with the UK Parliament and empower them to get involved. This is a great opportunity to be part of a thriving democracy, ask questions, think critically and engage with the UK Parliament. Schools, museums, libraries, faith communities and youth organisations representing every constituency across the United Kingdom have already signed up to be part of the conversation.

Huxlow Science College said: “We are excited to join communities across the country getting involved in UK Parliament Week 2019 and getting our students involved in playing a vital role in their democracy. In 2018, UK Parliament Week reached almost 1 million people, with more than 8,100 activities. This year’s UK Parliament Week festival is expected to be the largest ever.

David Clark, Head of Education and Engagement at UK Parliament, said: “We are delighted Huxlow Science College has taken the opportunity to participate in this year’s UK Parliament Week and inspire their members to get involved in their democracy. “There are many exciting activities happening across the country as part of this year’s UK Parliament Week, with schools, workplaces and community groups using the week to have their say on the issues they care about most. This year’s UK Parliament Week will be the largest ever and we can’t wait to see all the fantastic activities that will be taking place.”

1. UK Parliament Week is an annual festival organised by the UK Parliament Education and Engagement Team, a service of the House of Commons and House of Lords which seeks to inform and educate all citizens about the work and role of the UK Parliament. Find out more about UK Parliament Week.
