A Warm Welcome to Huxlow

My philosophy is very clear, 'if it is not good enough for my child, then it is not good enough for yours'.

At Huxlow we are committed to developing the whole child, and strive to ensure that every student’s experience is one where they feel Safe, Happy and experience Success.

School years should be the most memorable, and our aim is to offer a wealth of opportunities and experiences to ensure every student leaves enriched and equipped for life beyond Huxlow.

Each member of staff is committed to a common goal which is to ensure ‘every individual is empowered to fulfil their potential’. As well as an excellent academic provision student can expect high quality wellbeing support through out each Key Stage. Our most recent OFSTED recognised that “everyone in the school puts pupil’s well-being at the centre of everything they do”.

We are proud that as a result of their Huxlow experience and personal dedication, students are supported to achieve their goals and go on to a range of top Universities including Oxford and Cambridge, access competitive Apprenticeships and acquire sought after roles in the world of work. Mostly, we are proud that our students go on to be responsible young adults who are an asset to our community.

I am incredibly lucky to lead such a dedicated team of staff at Huxlow and to watch our students flourish, equipped for exciting futures, as a result of staff expertise and guidance.

Huxlow’s annual Presentation Evening for outstanding achievements

On Wednesday 7th November 2018, Huxlow held its annual Presentation Evening, to award students for a huge range of outstanding achievements. Our special guest for the evening was Luke White, a former Huxlow student. His engaging and entertaining speech about his career in the music industry, was a great inspiration to our current students.

Awards were then presented by Luke and Mrs L Gauvrit, Assistant Headteacher, to our current Year 8-11 students for their achievements over the course of the last academic year (2017-18):

  • Endeavour Awards: Certificates are awarded to those students who have consistently produced good work throughout the year in five or more subjects
  • Progress Awards: These are awarded to students with special educational needs for a variety of reasons
  • Best and Most Improved Student Awards for each curriculum area: The Learning Leader or Head of Department announced the reasons why each student had been nominated to receive their trophy and certificate. Committed, conscientious, responsible, outstanding, exceptional, creative, enthusiastic, passionate, talented and dedicated are just some of the adjectives which were used excessively throughout the evening.
  • Gerald Prince Award: Named in honour of a former member of staff, this award goes to the best overall male and female student in Year 9.
  • Steph Reynolds Award: Again, named in honour of a former member of staff, this award goes to the best overall male and female student in Year 8.
  • House Captains and Senior House Captains: A new addition to the Presentation Evening programme, House Captains are the students who have recently been elected by their peers to lead in House activities over the coming year.
  • Head students: Having undergone a challenging application process, these sixth form students represent Huxlow at many events both within the school and in our community.
  • College Council: Students who have been selected by their peers to represent their year group’s views were recognised for their commitment.
  • More Able Awards: Students who have completed the MA Honours Programme, part of a range of extra provisions made for more able students both in and outside of lessons.
