KEY STAGE 3
Drama opens new dimensions of emotional experiences. By observing other people’s creative processes and products, it can assist students in accessing emotions, along with understanding different ways of interpreting and understanding information. In drama we express ideas, observations and feelings by making choices about roles and/or characters. It will increase their ability to think; creatively, imaginatively and divergently. They will learn how to think outside the box. Drama teaches students how to become critical, rather than just passive viewers. Our aim is to increase students' self-esteem and confidence.
To fulfil your potential at Key Stage 3 you should:
- Your child is expected to rehearse out of lesson time in preparation for assessments.
KEY STAGE 4
The Edexcel GCSE in Drama is a practical and theoretical introduction to life and work in the industry. Students will explore:
- Developing specific skills and techniques.
- Devising and delivering a workshop performance.
- Analysing, evaluating and enhancing skills.
- Studying and performing scripts with social, cultural and historical context

To be the best you can be at Key Stage 4 you should:
- Homework will be set weekly. This will either be practical rehearsals and/or written coursework. Deadlines are strict.
ASSESSMENT
The course has three components. 1 internally assessed component with a coursework portfolio and 1 externally assessed component and a written paper.
Component 1: Devising (40%)
Students will have to create a group performance from a chosen stimulus and write and/or present a portfolio of their process and final performance evaluation. This will be internally assessed.
Component 2: Performance from a Text (20%)
Students will have to perform two key extracts from one text to an external examiner.
Component 3: Theatre Makers in Practice (40%)
The written paper is split into two sections.
Section A: Bringing Texts to Life
Section B: Live Theatre Evaluation
WHAT CAN I DO WITH A BTEC TECH AWARD IN PERFORMING ARTS QUALIFICATION?
Students will explore, challenge and realise potential. During the course, students can see what the industry is all about, whether they want to go into it and gain knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their next steps.
Once completing the course successfully students can continue to a further vocational and academic study at Level 2 and Level 3, as well as apprenticeships and traineeships.
The transferrable skills they will have mastered during their studies such as self-reflection, communication, teamwork and problem solving will support progress in the present and future.
